Holiday Stress

When Family Fun Is No Fun

Exhausted? Irritable and angry? Finding little pleasure in what you think should be an enjoyable activity? Sounds like you might be in need of a vacation — after the holidays, that is. For almost a third of Americans, the days between Thanksgiving and New Year's all too often become a grueling grind of shopping, cleaning, meal planning and traveling.

It's estimated that up to 30 percent of people have significant problems with worry and anxiety. And in about 5 to 9 percent of the population, the problem can be bad enough to interfere with work and family life. Perhaps not surprisingly, chronic worriers tend to feel more stressed during the holidays.
