Parent-Teacher Conference Checklist
Consider using this sample list of questions as a guide when you have a conference with your childs teacher. These questions should serve as a guideline only; adapt them to your own needs as you see fit. This list is appropriate for both elementary and secondary school students. Ask the teacher to provide specific examples where necessary.
1. What does my child seem most interested in?
2. How is he or she being supported in these areas?
3. What can I do at home to nurture my childs strengths?
4. What skills does my child most need to improve?
5. How are you helping to improve those skills?
6. How can I help my child at home?
7. How are my childs social skills developing?
8. Is he or she maintaining healthy friendships? Please explain.
9. Does my child tend to be overly shy or aggressive? Please explain.
10. Does my child perform well in groups and on his or her own? Please explain.
11. Are there areas in which my child is not working up to his or her full capability? Please explain.
12. Have you noticed any learning or behavioral issues? Please explain.
13. Has my child had any unexplained absences or tardiness? Please explain.
14. Are my childs homework assignments completed on time and accurately? Please explain
15. How is my child evaluated and how is he or she doing compared with other students in the classroom?
16. Can I contact you throughout the year if I have questions or concerns? Will you contact me if any problems arise?
