Alcohol

Alcohol: Tonic or Toxic?
For some people, drinking in moderation can be beneficial. But at higher levels, it's deadly.

When Enough Is Enough
About the only thing that alcohol abusers have in common is that they are all, in some way, damaging their lives. Here's how to recognize a drinking problem.

What Is Alcoholism?
Alcoholism is a chronic illness characterized by a craving for alcohol, a physical dependence on alcohol and a continued need for alcohol despite alcohol-related psychological, interpersonal and physical problems.

Binge Drinking
Binge drinking is the consumption of five or more alcoholic drinks in a row or four or more drinks for a woman.

Alcohol Withdrawal
Alcohol withdrawal is a term that describes the changes the body goes through when a person suddenly stops drinking after prolonged and heavy alcohol use.

Alcohol and Disease
Some studies suggest that moderate drinking may prevent heart disease. But this is balanced by reports on the dangers of alcohol. The amount of alcohol consumed is the most important factor.

Alcohol and Diabetes
Alcohol contains calories that must be factored into the daily meal plan of a person with diabetes. Several other factors must be kept in mind, too.

Drinking During Pregnancy
Everything you eat and drink while you are pregnant affects your baby. If you drink alcohol, it can hurt your baby's growth. Your baby may have physical and behavioral problems that can last for the rest of his or her life.

Drinking and Driving
Drinking and driving: The bottom line is "don't." But if you want to read more, here it is.
